1. How will your paper be evaluated? Here are the main criteria:
- originality of analysis;
- thoroughness of research of topic;
- coherence of organization;
- quality of sources and appropriate source referencing where required;
- quality of language (English, French, or Russian);
- neatness of presentation.

2. Physical presentation and form:
- typed double-spaced in 12 pt Times Roman with 1" margins;
- all pages numbered and author identified;
- initial page with all pertinent information: (student name, number, course number, name of professor,
title of paper);
- all sources and statements referenced, and references keyed to a bibliography (on separate page at the end); system of referencing should be consistent;
- in references, articles to be given in quotes, books and journals in italics or underlined.

Late Assignments
Assignments submitted past their due date lose 5% of the grade each day; work submitted more than four days late will not be accepted and the grade will be zero, unless the student presents a medical certificate along with the paper. In case of special circumstances, extension can be granted, but only if requested in advance.

Plagiarism and Improper Citation
Plagiarism is an attempt to pass someone else’s words and ideas for your own; self-plagiarism includes turning in the same paper for different classes.  It constitutes serious academic fraud, and the penalties vary from grading the assignment as zero to expulsion from the university. Plagiarism might sometimes result from improper citation, though being misinformed is not a valid excuse.  To avoid committing plagiarism, please read the university guidelines or other relevant sources on the University of Ottawa web-site. Proper and improper citation will be discussed in class. If in doubt, never hesitate to consult the professor.

Remember to keep an electronic copy of your paper.
