Research projects for students

Undergraduate projects.  There are possibilities for purely algebraic projects in the theory of commutative rings, or projects in basic algebraic geometry.  A project consists, essentially, in learning a topic and writing a mathematical text about it; it may also involve solving or investigating a problem, i.e., research.

M.Sc. or Ph.D. projects.  The field in which I work is called Affine Algebraic Geometry, and of course this will also be your field if you work under my supervision.  The following should help you decide if you can see yourself working in that field.

• You should first read this document.  This is a one-page text which should give you some idea of what Affine Algebraic Geometry is.  

• If you want to learn more about this field then you could look at the first few pages of this document.  These are lecture notes which I prepared in 2008 when I gave some lectures in Madrid.  The aim of the lectures was to introduce graduate students to Affine Algebraic Geometry, so this may be of interest to you.
