ON THE INTELLECTUAL ORIGINS OF KEYNES'S POLICY RADICALISM IN THE
GENERAL THEORY

During the last decade, several works on Keynes's philosophy and politics have been published that provide a more comprehensive analysis of his vision of the economy and society. While recognizing the relevance of his intellectual non-conformism and broad political philosophy in explaining his policy system in support of systematic government intervention, this paper suggests that his radical stance in favour of the socialization of investment and the euthanasia of the rentier class are as much a result of his economic analysis as they are a consequence of his general world view.
