Nancy Edwards, RN, BScN,
MSc, PhD
Nancy is a Professor
with the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, University
of Ottawa. She also holds a cross appointment with the Department
of Epidemiology and Community Medicine.
In June 2000, Dr. Edwards
was awarded a Nursing Chair by the Canadian Health Services Research
Foundation and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. The focus
of her research is multiple interventions for community health nursing.
Dr. Edwards' research
career has spanned three continents. She has led community health
research projects in sub-Saharan Africa, China and Canada.
Her research interests
are the design and evaluation of complex, multi-level, and multi-component
community health programs. Recent studies have focused on tobacco
cessation, fall prevention among seniors, and the transfer and uptake
of research evidence. Local, provincial and federal decision making
partners are involved in many of these studies.
Currently, Nancy holds
an appointment as Vice-Chair of the Advisory Board for the CIHR
Institute of Public and Population Health.
At the University of
Ottawa, Nancy serves as Director of both the Population Health PhD
Program and the Community Health Research Unit (a health system-linked
research unit funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term
Care).
She is a visiting professor
of Guerrero University (Mexico), and Tianjin Medical University
(China) and in 2000, was awarded an honorary lifetime membership
by the Canadian Public Health Association.
