The Design of Multiple
Interventions in Community Health
Language of Course: English
Course Description:
This course critiques
the design of multi-component and multi-level intervention programs
in community health. Selected case examples are used to examine
the theoretical basis for multiple intervention programs. Key issues
in the design of multiple intervention programs are discussed including
the optimal blend and timing of interventions; synergistic effects,
and the contextual environment. Planning tools to support the design
and evaluation of multiple intervention programs are reviewed. Barriers
to the design and evaluation of effective multiple intervention
programs are debated.
Course Objectives:
Theory Objectives:
- To review typologies
describing multiple (multi-component, multi-level and multi-channel)
interventions in community health.
- To examine the theoretical
basis for the design of multiple intervention programs in community
health.
- To examine and critique
key elements of multiple intervention program design including
the optimal blend and timing of interventions; synergistic effects,
and the contextual environment.
- To articulate principles
for choosing among alternative interventions and optimizing the
blend of interventions for improving population health.
- To examine organizational
and political barriers to the design and evaluation of effective
multiple intervention programs.
- To undertake a comparative
analysis of selected planning tools for the design of multiple
intervention programs
- To debate directions
for the future design and evaluation of multiple intervention
programs in community health.
- To become familiar
with the strengths and limitations of selected planning tools
for the design of multiple intervention community health programs.
- To examine and critique
existing approaches to multi-component program design in community
health.
