Jinny Yu


A native of Seoul, South Korea, Jinny Yu has, since 1996, exhibited widely across Canada, as well as in the United States, Japan, Italy, and the United Kingdom. An artist-in-residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts in 1999, and at Stiftung Starke in Berlin in 2004, at the Red Gate Gallery in Beijing in 2005, and a grant recipient of le Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, Jinny Yu has worked in Toronto, Montreal, New Brunswick, Paris and most recently, at the Center for Studies on Technologies in Distributed Intelligence Systems at the Venice International University in Italy. She has lectured extensively at various institutions such as Sangmyung University in Seoul, Korea, NSCAD University in Halifax, and at both Concordia University and Cégep Rosemont in Montreal.

Jinny Yu holds an MFA and MBA degree from York University, and from York University's Schulich School of Business, respectively, as well as a BFA degree from Concordia University. Yu currently resides in Ottawa, Canada, where she is an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa, and where she continues her practice as a visual artist.

Represented by the Galerie Art Mûr in Montreal, her paintings are featured in various museum, corporate, foundation and private collections. Among these are the Musée National des Beaux-Arts du Québec, Ernst & Young, ICI Canada Inc. and the Mills Foundation.
