Course Description
This course is designed to give students with no knowledge of Russian a grasp of the most basic features of the language: alphabet, pronunciation, vocabulary, conversation. In addition to grammatical work, there will be exercises in the computer lab, and video material will be presented to give an impression of contemporary life in Russia .
The text used in this course and in the follow-up course (RUS1902) is Golosa, Book One, and the accompanying Student Activity Manual, both available in the University Bookstore.

Tests
There will be a short test (Контрольная работа) after each lesson except lesson five.
Grades
These will be calculated as follows:
Alphabet test: 5%
Tests after lessons 1-4: 40%
Recorded assignment: 10%
Homework: 15 %
Final exam (including 2nd recording): 30%
Policy concerning absences
Presence and active participation in all courses and labs is obligatory. The professor will not go over material already presented in class for students who have been absent without a valid reason.

1. This course has two parallel sections - A & B. If you are obliged for some reason to miss a class, you may make it up in the other section. The times and locations are as follows:

2. There are four Lab sessions. Beginning on September 13th, you must attend one of the four each week according to your timetable. The times and locations are as follows:
