Project Workshop
On 2009 June 8, representatives of five Indigenous communities around the world, academic researchers, and freelance consultants met in a three-day workshop in Ottawa, Ontario. The workshop was held at the University of Ottawa, under the auspices of InterCulture and led by Dr. Sylvie Blangy. The Indigenous communities represented were:
- Inuit from Kudjuaq, Nunavik (Canada);
- Cree First Nations from Eeyou Istchee (Quebec/Canada);
- Cree First Nations from Moose Factory (Ontario/Canada);
- Saami Reindeer Herders of Övre Soppero (Sweden);
- Saami Reindeer Herder from Norway; and
- Orochen from China.
Two representatives who had been scheduled to attend (one from Russia and one from Baker Lake) were unable to at the last minute.
Following the three-day conference was one day of meetings and tours around Ottawa, including dinner at a local Aboriginal restaurant, and a four-day field trip of Aboriginal tourist sites in Quebec.
