Participants - Orochen

The Orochen are one of the smallest ethnic minorities in China with a population of approximately 8000. They live mostly in the Great Xingan Mountains in the Heilongjiang Province of Northeast China and the autonomous region of Inner Mongolia. Although not located in either the Arctic or sub-Arctic regions, the Orochen maintain a fish-hunting tradition which, in many ways, is similar to those of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada.

For more information about the Orochen, check out the Orochen Foundation.

Two representatives from the Orochen community participated in the conference. What they brought to the table was in-depth knowledge rooted in traditional wisdom and hands-on experience.
