Proposals
are invited for papers and panels. Possible topics include, but
are not limited to:
- the
Seven Years' War: the first global conflict
- impact
of the war on the aboriginal peoples of North America, the inhabitants
of New France and subsequently French Canada, British settlers
in America and, later, English Canada, and the future destiny
of the American colonies
- empire,
globalization, and commerce and commercial rivalry
- the
cultural impact of the war, including literary and artistic representations
- waging
war in the eighteenth century: practices and representations
- Anglo-French
relations in the eighteenth century: cultural emulations and imperial
rivalries
- cultural
cosmopolitanism in the eighteenth century: travel, artistic connoisseurship,
literary and scientific correspondence, literary translation,
etc.
- cultural
anniversaries: the birth of Samuel Johnson in 1709; Robert Burns
and Friedrich Schiller in 1759; the death of Georg Friedrich Handel
in 1759; the suppression in France of the Encyclopédie
in 1759; and the publication in 1759 Burke's Philosophical
Enquiry (2nd edition), Johnson's Rasselas, Smith's
Theory of Moral Sentiments, Sterne's Tristram Shandy
(vols. 1-2), and Voltaire's Candide, etc.

is traditional with CSECS and NEASECS, proposals not on the conference
theme are also welcome..
Nous
sollicitons des propositions de communication et d'atelier se rapportant,
entre autres, aux thèmes suivants:
- la
Guerre de Sept Ans: première guerre mondiale
- les
répercussions de la guerre sur les peuples autochtones
de l'Amérique du Nord, sur les habitants de la Nouvelle-France
et, par la suite, du Canada français, sur les colons britanniques
d'Amérique et, plus tard, du Canada anglais, et sur le
destin des colonies américaines
- le
projet impérial, la mondialisation, le commerce et la rivalité
commerciale
-
œuvres littéraires ou artistiques auxquelles la guerre
a donné lieu
- faire
la guerre au XVIIIe siècle: pratiques et representations
- les
relations franco-anglaises au dix-huitième siècle:
concurrence des cultures et rivalité des empires
- cosmopolitisme
culturel au dix-huitième siècle: les voyages, la
connaissance des arts, la correspondance littéraire et
scientifique et la traduction d'œuvres littéraires,
etc.

événements importants de l'histoire culturelle :
la naissance de Samuel Johnson en 1709, de Robert Burns et de
Friedrich Schiller en 1759, la mort de Georg Friedrich Händel,
l'interdiction de l'Encyclopédie en France; et la publication
de plusieurs textes essentiels, parmi lesquels la seconde édition
